Earth Fare, the homegrown organic supermarket chain that has grown to 31 stores, will close its distribution warehouse here, affecting about 25 employees.

Started in Asheville, Earth Fare now has 31 stores in the Southeast and Midwest, including two in Asheville and others in the Carolinas, Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky and Indiana.
Kanzig said the employees affected will be accommodated within the company, most probably offered other positions.
Besides the space needs, Kanzig said the mountain winters and terrain also played a role in the decision. Inclement weather and hilly roads can cause problems with delivery schedules.
The warehouse, located in the Fletcher Industrial Park off Cane Creek Road, used to be part of the Steelcase
“They’ve done a good job filling that thing up,” Fletcher Mayor Bill Moore said. “I hate to hear it’s closing. That’s an asset, certainly to Fletcher and certainly to Western North Carolina.”
