INSURANCE COMMISSIONER DENIES RATE INCREASE The North Carolina Rate Bureau filed for an increase in auto insurance rates early in 2008 according to Kristen Milam with the North Carolina Department of Insurance. She told WHKP News that Insurance Commissioner Jim Long held a hearing, and denied the request. She said that the Rate Bureau is appealing the decision, but in the meantime, consumers willl see rates go up 9.4 percent. She said if the appeal is denied, which is what she thinks willl happen, the money will go back to consumers. She said the appeal process could take months.
