CLEANUP OF I-40 ROCK SLIDE IS A SLOW PROCESS

\

The recent bad weather did not slow the cleanup of the I-40 rock slide much according to Jerry Higgis with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.  He told WHKP News that the weatherdid slow some of the blasting, but that people need to remember that the process itself is very slow.

Higgins said that crews have basically cleared the lower part of the slide itself, and the next step is to clear out a cliff that is about 40 feet thick, 80 feet tall, and weighs several tons.  He said that it could be spring before the rock slide is completely clear.
