Parks and Recreation Director Tim Hopkin and Recreation Program Supervisor Laura Rice have become Certified Youth Sports Administrators (CYSA) through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS). Tim received his certification on January 9, 2014 and Laura on December 19, 2013. Only 2,000 administrators in the United States hold the CYSA certification.

This certification equips Tim and Laura with the knowledge and tools to provide safe and positive youth sports programs in Henderson County by following the National Standard for Youth Sports and NAYS Recommendations for Communities. Topics covered by the course include policies & procedures, volunteer management, child abuse prevention, risk management, parent management, and inclusive sports for children with disabilities.

Having two Certified Youth Sports Administrators in Henderson County is a valuable asset. It allows the Parks and Recreation Program to elevate the standards and practices of youth sport programs throughout the county.
