HISTORIC SEVENTH AVENUE DISTRICT TO BE ABSORBED BY THE CITY SIMILAR TO DOWNTOWN HENDERSONVILLE

History

The City of Hendersonville plans to take over the Historic Seventh Avenue District between now and the start of the new fiscal year in July.

Apparently in the discussion stage since earlier this year, city manager John Connet says the Historic   Seventh Avenue "special tax district" will be absorbed and structured in the future similar to Downtown Hendersonville, another "special tax district".

Connet says the existing HSAD board will soon be replaced by an "advisory committee" which will provide advice and guidance on development and other Seventh   Avenue East issues.

Connet said the HSAD's current part-time executive director, Tara Ledbetter, will, under the re-structuring, no longer be an employee of the "special tax district" but will become a City of Hendersonville employee...much the same as the downtown director.

A meeting between city officials and Seventh Avenue East stakeholders was held earlier in the week.

One Seventh Avenue East business and property owner, Carson Calton of City Tire Service, says he thinks this will be a positive change for Seventh Avenue. He says a great deal of re-development in that area has been accomplished in recent years...and he feels the city's resources will now enable that re-development to move forward to the next level.

"Special tax districts" were set up a number of years ago to raise the necessary money to better develop and promote both Downtown Hendersonville and the Historic   Seventh Avenue districts.

Both city manager Connet and Carson Calton will be featured on WHKP's local news throughout the day on Thursday February 27th, explaining this re-structuring of Historic   Seventh Avenue.
