The Summer Backpack Ministry of the Carolina Baptist Association, will be hosting a fund raising event at the Hendersonville Chick-fil-A on Four Seasons Blvd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1st. NO FOOLING... eat dinner on April Fool's evening and stop by the booth and learn about and help hungry children in Henderson County.

According to George H. Erwin Jr., "There are 13,500 students enrolled in Henderson County Schools and 55% (7,425) are enrolled in the free or reduced cost lunch program. Of these, roughly 700 children receive a food backpack each Friday to help feed them each weekend during the school year. During the summer, many of these 7,425 children go hungry. They do not receive the daily meals at school nor the weekend backpacks."

"The Carolina Baptist Association in partnership with the Henderson County Schools developed a comprehensive strategy to provide food to these children during the summer" Erwin said. This is the fourth year of the program and the need has continued to rise according to Erwin.

If you cannot attend the Chick-fil-A event, or want more information you can support the Summer Backpack Food Program by contacting the Carolina Baptist Association at 828.693.4274.
