RETIRED MILLS RIVER DOCTOR'S GIFT PUSHES PARDEE FOUNDATION OVER THEIR $6 MILLION GOAL

GIFT WAS FROM DR. AND MRS. BOB WEBB

Pardee Hospital Foundation announced today that they had surpassed their capital campaign goal of $6 million, a full seven months ahead of schedule. In an announcement to the Pardee UNC Health Care board of directors on Sept. 27, executive director Kimerly Hinkelman informed the board that the campaign had finished up at just over $6.3 million - $6,374,731.35 to be exact. Hinkelman points to a handful of major gifts and close to 600 donors from the community as reasons for such a strong, early success.

The Foundation kicked off their capital campaign to support the completion of the Pardee Cancer Center in April of 2015; Pardee UNC Health Care opened the Cancer Center in December of 2016. The Foundation staff and capital campaign committee planned for a full three-year campaign, anticipating that it would take that long to raise $6 million. “Our community really stepped up and delivered,” said Hinkelman. “Through the leadership of our committee chairs, Dr. Bill Medina and Marcia Caserio, and the tireless efforts of Debbie Rouse throughout the entire campaign, we were able to cultivate amazing relationships with donors who understood the vision for the new Pardee Cancer Center and ultimately supported that vision through their generosity.”

The most recent donation to the campaign is what pushed the total raised over the $6 million mark. Using a real estate asset to facilitate a part-sale, part-donation “bargain sale” gift to the capital campaign, Dr. Bob Webb and his wife Linda, were able to make a more impactful gift than with traditional monetary donations alone.

“Bob and Linda Webb’s gift is the kind of gift that really makes an impact for all parties involved,” said Hinkelman. “Not only did their gift help us go beyond our goal, it was given by someone who knows and loves Pardee. That means so much.” The Webbs will be honored with the naming of a chapel in the Cancer Center. Dr. Webb is a retired physician with Pardee; where he practiced for many years in Mills River...he and his wife are long-time supporters of the hospital and of the Foundation’s efforts.

Hinkelman notes that the campaign had already experienced tremendous success early on with initial gifts from community members such as the late Norm Gordon and his wife, Marilyn, and Rakesh and Dolly Agarwal of Rug & Home. The campaign found renewed energy in 2016 with a $500,000 donation and $250,000 challenge gift from Brian Robinson, almost immediately propelling the campaign towards the $5 million mark. The final gift from the Webb’s came in September, bringing the campaign to an end after two years and five months.

Pardee Memorial Hospital Foundation was approved as a nonprofit foundation in January 1996. The Foundation exists to educate and inspire the community to support Pardee Hospital.
