BLUE RIDGE COMMUNI8TY COLLEGE THIS SPRING BEGAN "SAMTEC" TO TRAIN WORKERS FOR THE NEW FACILITY THAT WILL ULTIMATELY CREATE OVER 340 MANUFACTURING JOBS

At the end of May (see the photo), the Blue Ridge Community College opened its new education center. GF Linamar supported the development of the educational area which was specially designed to meet the training needs of the new light metal plant....which is located in between Sierra Nevada's state-of-the art Mills River craft brewery and the expanding Asheville Regional Airport and is the latest addition to Ferncliff Industrial Park in Mills River

The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Southeastern Advanced Molding Technology Education Center (SAMTEC) took place on 24 May of this year at the new facility on the BRCC main campus. The education center of the Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) is specially designed to meet the training needs of the new light metal plant of GF Linamar which is currently being built and soon to be complete and in operation in Mills River.

For die cast trainings, GF Linamar, its equipment suppliers and the governments, and in co-operation with the Golden Leaf Foundation, Partnership For Economic Development, and others, donated the support and the majority of the necessary equipment and funds for training. Before the opening, two BRCC instructors have received training on equipment set-up, maintenance, and operation at the current sites of GF Automotive in Austria and Switzerland.

SAMTEC provides quality workforce training, such as for the production of plastic molding processes. Courses will be offered to GF Linamar employees, as well as to companies locally and across the nation. Long term plans include the development of a full associate degree program in Molding Technology.
