Park Ridge Health Takes Steps to Notify Patients & Public: Vendor

Reports Possible Food Safety Issue

Hendersonville, N.C. (October 20, 2017) – On October 19, 2017, Mann Packing issued a voluntary recall of fresh broccoli florets because they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
Mann Packing is a supplier of produce to US Foods, which is a food vendor for Park Ridge Health. Mann Packing issued the recall to its customer (US Foods), and US Foods then passed along the recall information to Park Ridge Health.
Mann Packing issued this recall in response to a single positive result found during random sampling by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Mann Packing is issuing this recall out of an abundance of caution. To date, public health officials have not reported any illnesses associated with this product.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Park Ridge Health is extending this message to patients and the public. If you believe you consumed broccoli via our patient tray service or in our public cafeteria between the dates of 9/29/17 and 10/3/17 and are suffering from the symptoms listed above, please seek medical attention.

Individuals with further questions may contact the Mann Packing 24-hour Consumer Line at 888-470-2681 or visit https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls/ucm581389.htm
