After starting his day on Friday reading to students at Upward Elementary School in Henderson County, Gov. Pat McCrory was in Western North Carolina Friday and he plans to spend the weekend here.

McCrory spent Thursday night at the Governor’s Western Residence in Asheville.

Today, McCrory visited several businesses in downtown Black Mountain this morning. He talked to supporters and purchased several items, including two bottles of root beer, one called Rat Bastard, which he jokingly said he planned to give to one of his cabinet members.

The governor said his visit to WNC was to get input from small-town locals about priorities early in his term. The trip is what’s being called his “Main Street” tours. He’s said he wants to work to revitalize small towns.

Hear Gov. McCrory discussing some critical issues facing North Carolina, such as the federal government's "sequester" and the Governor's decision not to expand the Medicaid program on AM 1450 WHKP's local news this weekend and on Monday.
