NEILL SENTENCING EXPECTED IN MAY
Dis-barred Hendersonville attorney Sam Neill will not be sentenced on federal tax fraud charges and on state charges of mis-appropriating clients money until May.
Neill had been scheduled to be sentencd on both the federal and state charges during a two week term of Superior Court that started on February 25th.
Local District Attorney Jeff Hunt is not involved in the case...he had turned the matter entirely over to the NC Attorney General's office because a member of the Neill family works for the DA.
But Hunt confirmed for WHKP News this week that based on information he had been given by the Attortney General's office, the sentencing will be in May on the federal charged...and during a special term of local Superior Court on the state charges.
Neill, a long time Hendersonville attorney. former Democratic congressional candidate, and a fortmer member and chairman of the UNC Board of Governors, has admitted mis-appropriating clients money and has plead guilty to the federal tax fraud charges.
Neill's attorneys have promised restitution to his former clients...and that's presumed to be part of the sentencing agreement which, according to Hunt, has been delayed.
