PARKING WOES DISCUSSED
Many of the same parking issues that have plagued downtown Hendersonville for decades were discussed Tuesday night in a parking forum at the city operations building.
A shortage of parking in the 200 block on Main Street; employees taking up near-by available parking space in city parking lots, the lack of parking for downtown employees, leased parking spaces, under-utilized available parking, the need for more convenient parking, delivery trucks, downtown residents taking up parking spaces, the need for more enforcement, the need for user-friendly meters, safety after hours, and the need for better lighting on side streets and in parking lots…these were just some of the topics discussed by dozens of people who attended the parking forum.
Some solutions such as a possible parking deck, what are called “smart meters”, more handi-capped spaces, better signage, creating loading zones, a parking study, even possible valet parking…all were possible solution suggested and discussed Tuesday night.
Businesses downtown appeared to be especially grateful for the discussion.
City officials indicated the possible parking solutions discussed would be posted on the city’s web site, cityofhendersonville.org within a week…to give the public a chance to vote on them and express their opinions.
