America is Surely a Land of Contrasts...

America is surely a land of contrasts. A few weeks ago, we saw our nation spend a week respectfully mourning the death of a great American in the days leading up to the burial of President Ronald Reagan. The man, the memories, the mood and the week…brought out the very best in America. Now…the pendulum has swung…and American theater-goers are about to be confronted with Fahrenheit 9/11.

Some of us find ourselves asking, What’s the big deal about THIS movie? Theater-goers have been confronted with trash for many years. The fact is, THIS so-called documentary takes us all to an all new level. It’s a direct assault on our President George W. Bush…and it’s coming, OF COURSE, just months before the election.

We’ve not seen Fahrenheit 9/11…but from all accounts, and from all available research, it’s clearly a theatrical exercise in visual indecency, historical inaccuracy, and anti-patriotic malarkey. Well over 500 theaters nationwide will be showing Fahrenheit 9/11…and like any other freak show, it will attract the morbidly curious and the morally numb. The fact is, there ARE those who are willing to PAY for this kind of sick titillation, …as those who made Fahrenheit 9/11 put their anti-Bush, anti-American, anti-everything decent spin on one of the most tragic events in world AND American history.

And OF COURSE..they do it all in the name of free speech and freedom of expression, much like other so-called artists who dipped Christ on the cross in urine. The fact is…the makers and producers are not even on the political or SENSIBLE “fringe”. They’re WAY beyond the pale…and sadly, like lemmings, eager to run off a cliff, millions of gullible theater-goers will pay good money to see the movie.

The left-wing has been hankering for something like Fahrenheit 9/11 since Bush beat Gore in Florida and won the presidency. And the likes of Michael Moore and Fahrenheit 9/11 are typical..and without a doubt, they’re the best the left can do.

Henderson County has now..and HAS had, historically…some of the most sensible and patriotic people in America. And frankly, it’s a bit embarrassing and almost insulting that Fahrenheit 9/11 will be darkening OUR door and landing on OUR Main Street. We must remember that just up the road, it’ll be shown in Asheville’s Fine Arts Theater. And we all KNOW well the KIND of films that have been shown in the Fine Arts Theater for years. This has to TELL us all something about the film, those who made it, those who SHOW it, and those who’ll profit from it.

Our best guess IS…Fahrenheit 9/11 will mean NOTHING when election day comes in November. And will ultimately be nothing more than an ugly flash..in a glitzy Hollywood, ultra left-wing pan. And the pendulum will swing BACK in America’s favor. Meanwhile..lets not get caught up in the hoop-la..and give it more attention or ATTENDANCE than it deserves. And we’ll look forward to the day when it’s off OUR Main Street..and off of America’s marquees.
