Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:05 till 10, WHKP presents OPEN LINE. Hosts are Don Michalove and Bill Fishburne. LOCAL topics and guests range from roads to weather. "Open Line Hendersonville" is the county's only live call-in talk show.
Community News AND VIEWS
Every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:10. Sponsored by Spearman's Furniture Company, the hosts are Bessie Bright and Richard Rhodes. Topics and guests are community/public service oriented.
WEATHER COVERAGE
In addition to 24 hour-a-day forecasts, WHKP provides live coverage of all major weather events, and their impact on the community. Always included are a series of live informational interviews with local officials and newsmakers.
ELECTION RETURNS/SPECIAL EVENTS
In every election, WHKP provides full coverage from the time polls close until every local vote is counted and each race is determined and all available candidates and pundits are interviewed. WHKP also provides beginning-to-end coverage of all major local news events, from fires to floods.
SPORTS
Woody Durham
WHKP "talk" includes complete sports coverage...including play-by-play coverage of high school games...local Henderson County schools and teams, full Carolina Tar Heels coverage, and total coverage of the Carolina Panthers. Check our LOCAL SPORTS for a listing.
MEDICAL MONDAY
A couple of Monday mornings each month at 9:05, Medical Monday deals with health care-related topics. Primary HOST is News Director Larry Freeman. The guests are local doctors and other health care professionals. Calls from listeners are always invited.
HENDERSON COUNTY EDUCATION
On the second and fourth Mondays of each month during the school year, Richard Rhodes hosts the Henderson County School's Bulletin Board with school board chairman Ervin Bazzle and superintendent Dr. Stephen Page at 6:30pm.
Carolina Journal
Can be heard each Sunday evening at 6pm, and deals with politics and public affairs in North Carolina from a conservative perspective.
LIVE, ON-LOCATION REMOTES
WHKP broadcasts "live" from many local businesses throughout the year. Chuck Finley, Chuck "In the Afternoon", Tyler Sams, and Larry Freeman are the guys 'on the road'.
