Sherman's Sporting Goods has announced they will be closing at the end of their going out of business sale which began over the Labor Day Weekend.
Sherman's Sports and Army Store, a 100+ year old Hendersonville, NC establishment, was founded in 1922 by Louis Sherman. It began as a general store and gradually transitioned to focus on sporting goods and later merged with his son's separate army surplus store. Today, owned by the third generation, the store specializes in outdoor apparel, gear, footwear, and a selection of military surplus items.
Founding and Early Years
1922: Louis Sherman opened the original store as a general store, selling items like luggage, men's wear, musical instruments, and athletic equipment.
Transition to Sporting Goods and Army Surplus
1950s/60s:
Louis Sherman retired, and his son, Kalman Sherman, took over the store, which by then was more focused on sporting goods.
