Firefighters have increased containment on the Looking Glass Fire in the Pisgah National Forest to 100%.

As previously reported, the fire was burning about four miles northwest of the community of Pisgah Forest. The wildfire was first reported on Tuesday, April 7 and was caused by a downed power line.

The wildfire has reached 100% containments as of Saturday, April 11. Crews will continue to monitor the interior of the fire and potential existing pockets of heat.

The North Carolina Forest Service says the Saturday, April 11, update will be the last unless conditions change.

According to a news release, Fish Hatchery Road (475), Headwaters Road (475B) and Looking Glass Trail have reopened.

Visitors are urged to use caution when visiting the area as firefighters and law enforcement continue to monitor the area.

According to a news release, fire crews and aircraft have responded to seven new fires with a total acreage of 17 across the National Forests in North Carolina on Friday, April 10.

Firefighters have held six of the seven fires to small sizes, from a tenth of an acre to 1.5 acres.

Of the seven fires, the Jack Branch Fire, which was first reported on Friday, April 10, is the largest.

The Jack Branch Fire, located three miles north of Hot Springs, North Carolina, is being held at 15 acres with 70% containment.

Dry conditions and fire danger remain very high across all of North Carolina.

According to a news release, two Chinook helicopters performed aerial water drops, while crews responded on the ground to construct control lines leading to 70% containment by the evening of April 10.

On Saturday, April 11, crews will continue extinguishing areas of heat to prevent fire spread and continue working to increase containment. Aircraft are available if needed for water drops.
