Lake Lure continues to see recovery efforts 10 months after Hurricane Helene.

The town of Lake Lure announced in a social media post that the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), AshBritt, and many local contractors have hauled off 26,890 dump truck loads of material.

Crews have completed debris and silt removal from the Rumbling Bald Beach and Marina area and have shifted their focus to begin working on Coves, starting with the Firefly Cove area.

According to the post, multiple crews are working to complete the removal of silt from all the coves around the lake.

Currently, the lake is at its lowest level since it was built in the mid-1920s, at 960.5 Mean Sea Level.

The town of Lake Lure says the reservoir drain will remain drawdown as restoration continues, so town engineers and staff can schedule work and inspections on the dam and sewer system.

According to the post, the town is unable to specify the length of the drawdown period, as this is dependent upon the sedimentation and debris removal process. All updates will be posted to their Facebook.

The latest update on Lake Lure restoration is as follows:

  • A total of 766,760 tons of silt and sediment have been removed from Lake Lure (60,778 tons in the week of July 20, 2025 alone).
  • A total of 96,376 cubic yards (CY) of debris has been removed from the waterway (886 CY removed week of July 20, 2025 alone).
