Next week from June 24-27, Henderson County Public Schools, Pardee UNC Health Care, Blue Ridge Community College, and Wingate University are partnering to host the 3rd annual Health Sciences Career Camp for approximately 30 rising 9th-11th grade students interested in nursing, surgery, pharmacy, oncology, and other health sciences careers.
Designed to expose students to local postsecondary education tracks in the health sciences field and career opportunities, the camp will provide students with free backstage passes to the Fletcher Mission Pardee Health Campus and YMCA, Pardee Hospital, Pardee Cancer Center, Blue Ridge Community College’s nursing program, and Wingate University’s School of Pharmacy.
Through Pardee, students will learn about careers in physical therapy, sports medicine, oncology, infectious disease control, orthopedics, cardiology, behavioral health, and emergency medicine. During their tours of Pardee’s multiple facilities, the students will be able to participate in hands-on cardiac rehabilitation, sports medicine, ultrasound, and knee replacement surgery demonstrations.
Wingate University and BRCC will expose students to close-to-home postsecondary education options in the health sciences field, such as Wingate’s School of Pharmacy and physician assistant program, and BRCC’s surgical technology, nursing, and EMT programs.
