JOHN LOCKE FOUNDATION STUDY IS MISLEADING
A recent John Locke Foundation Study found that the city of Hendersonville has the 17th highest city tax rates in the state. Hendersonville City Manager Bo Fergeson told WHKP News that this study is misleading.
He said that communities that have a high number of vacation homes are calculated with the people who pay year round property taxes. He said the people who have vacation homes do not show up in our per capita population.
Ferguson said that the way the study calculated those numbers was to divide total property taxes by the population. He said that for communities that have a lot of year round residents that is a fair way to do it, but in a community like ours there is more property where that is not the case.
