BURGER KING JOINING THE MENU OF RESTAURANTS ON AIRPORT ROAD
It seems like late in the old year...and early in the new year...are the preferred times to close a restaurant if it’s not working out, or to open a new one..that’s been the case around here in the last few months both before an after the holidays.
Some unique new restaurants have opened up in Hendersonville like Marisco’s on the Asheville Highway, offering an interesting style of Mexican seafood on its menu.
And some long-time favorite restaurants, that we thought would probably be around forever, have gone out of business and are disappearing, literally over night...like Fatz in Henderson’s Crossing that’s probably gone for good...and the J and S Cafeteria out near the airport that says they’ll be back after some upgrades and make-overs.
And J and S cafeteria is located along what’s becoming one of the busiest stretches of new eating placed in Western North Carolina....that would be Airport Road from the airport to U.S. Highway 25...and Highway 25 all the way north through South Asheville. Along Airport Road, many are virtually side by side, like Arby’s and McDonalds and Chili’s and Olive Garden...Sonic, pizza, and pancake restaurants
and judging by the traffic and number of customers they all appear to be doing well.
The rumor has been around for a while that a Popeye’s plans to open on that stretch of Airport Road...and the Asheville Citizen Times recently brought news that Burger King will join the fast-food action at the intersection of Airport and Bradley Creek Road...and near it will be a new 5,000 square foot shopping center, no word yet on what stores will be in he new center, just a stone’s throw from an already huge and successful shopping center at Lowes and Targets, with a busy stand-alone Walmart just up the road. And more new motels are opening there than the airport can fly in enough people to stay in all those rooms.
All the new apartments and the influx of people into that area has a lot to do with the number of eating places...and of course Biltmore Park has a lot to do with it and the growing Biltmore Church to the Biltmore Estate itself.. But it’s all growth...most of it tax paying, up scale growth...which is good for the region along the French Broad River.
All where woods used to be...and the river...from Cecil Cantrell’s classy Coachlight and Jake Rusher’s “The Pines at Royal Pines”. But more...SO MUCH more is coming and 2019 promises to be a “boom” year for that region and its growth.
