HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A death investigation is underway after an 18-year-old man was found dead at a Henderson County park on Monday, July 27, authorities confirmed.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office said that shortly before 6:30 a.m. Monday, patrol deputies responded to a call at Dana Park, located east of Hendersonville off Upward Road.

On the scene, deputies identified a deceased male. The sheriff's office later identified the individual as 18-year-old Kooper Sturdivant.

Authorities said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was notified, and that office will determine Sturdivant's official cause and manner of death.

The investigation is ongoing, but authorities said there is "no indication of foul play or involvement by any other parties."

County leaders said Dana Park is temporarily closed as of Monday afternoon.
