Nearly seven months after withdrawing its application for a new store in the Enka Commerce Park, Costco has submitted new plans with the City of Asheville.
Costco withdrew its application for a highly anticipated new store in February, citing requests for on- and off-site improvements that had “increased the project’s overall scope, timeline and anticipated costs.” Since then, city officials, including Mayor Esther Manheimer and City Councilmember Kim Roney, Manheimer’s opponent for mayor in the November election, have been working with the retail giant to bring a proposal back.
Costco resubmitted an application Friday night, according to City of Asheville spokesperson Kim Miller. This application will go to the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission on Oct. 7 and then to City Council on Oct. 13 for initial discussion, Miller said, noting that Costco had already been through the city’s Technical Review Committee process.
