Dolly Parton, Country Music Icon, Dies At 80.
Dolly Parton, the singer, songwriter, actress and entrepreneur who became one of country music’s most beloved and enduring figures, has died. She was 80. Her death was announced today by her family. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
Born in rural East Tennessee, Parton rose to national prominence in the late 1960s and built a career spanning more than six decades. Her signature songs included “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You.” She sold more than 100 million records worldwide and won 11 Grammy Awards.
Parton also became a major film star, businesswoman and philanthropist. Her Dollywood theme park helped transform tourism in East Tennessee, while her Imagination Library provided hundreds of millions of free books to children.
Her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, died in March 2025 at 82.
