Emergency crews in Henderson County are on standby and responding to flooding concerns as Tropical Storm Isaias approaches western North Carolina.

The Henderson County Rescue Squad says about 30 members have been staged at its station since Friday morning, prepared for search-and-rescue calls as conditions worsen.

At about 8:38 p.m., Saturday, October 10, the rescue squad and Hendersonville Fire Department responded to their first water rescue of the storm. The squad says the patient was safely rescued. No further details about the person’s condition or the location of the rescue were immediately released.

Rescue officials say crews remain prepared for potential flash flooding, landslides and power outages as the storm moves through the region.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and find another route. Emergency officials are reminding people: Turn around, don’t drown.
