For the second year, US Cellular is hosting its annual Black History Month Art Contest and Fundraiser.
Original works were created by members of the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County and voted on by their neighbors.
Local first, second, and third-place winners will receive Visa cards of $100-250.
New this year, the top three first-place winners with the most votes from all participating Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide will get an additional $250, and their home Club will be rewarded with a $1,500 donation.
It's all in an effort to showcase Black icons in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), said US Cellular store manager Chance Hagwood.
"The main thing is we wanted to show that kids that, 'Hey, it's not just art or something that you drew or you painted, but you can be that person. These people that you are painting and creating were you at one time,'" Hagwood said. "It's really inspiring these kids to know that I can do that with some dedication and some hard work."
Voting is open until Feb. 15, 2024, and the winners will be announced at the end of the month.
