PARDEE UNC HEALTH CARE
...announced today that it has achieved 5 stars for its performance in hip fracture treatment and spine fusion surgery from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. This achievement is part of new findings and data released by Healthgrades and featured in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*
The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. For example, from 2014-2016, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5 stars as a group, on average 219,568 lives could potentially have been saved and 164,454 complications could potentially have been avoided.** A 5-star rating indicates that Pardee’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.
This award recognizes orthopedic medical providers in the following practices: Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics (a department of Pardee), Hendersonville Orthopedics at Pardee, Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, and Appalachian Orthopedics. This marks the sixth consecutive yearPardee has been recognized as a 5-star recipient for hip fracture treatment. Pardee’s orthopedic surgery services have been recognized by Healthgrades in the past, most recently with the Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award in 2016.
“At Pardee, providing high-quality medical care in a compassionate environment is our greatest priority and we are honored to receive this designation from Healthgrades,” said David Ellis, M.D., FACOG, chief medical officer at Pardee. “Patients can come to Pardee knowing they will receive five-star orthopedic care from our outstanding team of physicians and medical staff.”
“In an environment where consumers have more choices about where to receive their care, a hospital’s commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes is fundamental,” said Brad Bowman, M.D., chief medical officer, Healthgrades. “Because consumers place such value on this information, hospitals that achieve five stars for hip fracture treatment and spine fusion surgery stand out in their marketplace.”
*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
