It was more than an enchanted evening at Flat Rock Playhouse this past weekend when the award-winning and beloved Broadway musical "South Pacific" hit the stage.
At the same time, this fantastic performance is about a somewhat younger couple, American aristocrat Lt. Cable (played by Kevin Hack) and Liat (played by Candice Hatakeyama/Marissa Swanner), the beautiful daughter of native Bloody Mary, the island's fast-talking seller of anything of any value-including her daughter.
The on-stage chemistry between leading lady Stevens and leading man O'Shanick was palatable and delicious. Stevens portrayed Nellie not so much as naive, but rather caught up in love and surprised by her own prejudices.
